This still counts as my summer newsletter
It's not my fault there were only five minutes between April and October
It’s October, which means it’s time for my June newsletter. A lot has happened since the spring, and that is amazing considering only five minutes have passed. In that spirit, let’s get to the point, or it’ll be Christmas by the time you’re reading this. Here are some updates from my world:
In the spring I turned in the final manuscript for the second book in my series with Sourcebooks Wonderland, and in the past month I turned in the final manuscript for the third book. As far as I know, I’m not supposed to announce the titles of those books.
I enjoyed swimming quite a bit this summer—in pools, and (even better) in lakes surrounded by hills and evergreen trees. I highly recommend that.
I’ve been listening to a lot of Harry Nilsson. I recommend that as well.
I’ve seen character sketches for my second book, and I was able to weigh in to help select which character design we went with. It’s a delight any time I get to see new work from illustrator Pablo Pino, and I’m super excited for people to finally see what he’s done with this series.
Speaking of Pablo’s wonderful illustrations, I recently received full-color interiors for the first book (did I mention it’s called When Santa Wrote Back?) and they are SO great. It’s a really fun and special experience to settle in with the fully illustrated (and now in color!) version of a book you wrote, to dig into the details and explore the clever and beautiful things the illustrator has added to the story.
It is getting cold outside, and I don’t like that. Seems out of place in a summer newsletter.
And that’s it for now. Apropos of nothing, I’ll leave you with some wise words from Harry Nilsson:
If life is just a gamble, gamble if you want to win.
Life can be so easy, let the wheel of fortune spin.
Nathan
